چکیده

CASE REPORT During the routine dissection of a male cadaver in the Department of Anatomy, Shri B M Patil Medical College Bijapur, India, we found a long ribbon like muscle in right pectoral region, which originated from right 5th and 6th ribs at costo-chondral junction, in between the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles [Table/Fig-1]. From its origin, it travelled above and laterally and inserted by fusing with fibres of pectoralis minor. Pectoralis minor was inserted on medial border and upper surface of coracoid process of scapula. Accessory pectoral muscle was 14 cm long and it was 4 cm broad at its origin. The nerve supply to this muscle was through medial pectoral nerve [Table/Fig-2]. No variations were found with regards to origin and insertion of pectoralis major and minor. This accessory muscle was found only on right side and left side pectoral muscles showed no variations.

An accessory muscle of pectoral region: a case report.

Among the variations of pectoral muscles, this case appears to be unique in the literature. This was a case of an accessory pectoral muscle which was located between pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles, which was discovered during a routine anatomy dissection. The accessory muscle originated from 6(th) and 7(th) ribs at costo-chondral junction, which travelled supero-laterally and ins...

An accessory muscle of the thoracic wall

Introduction Customary dissection in the Physical Therapy Anatomy Laboratory yielded a unilateral left-sided pectoral variation in a single cadaver. The cadaver was a 60-yearold Caucasian male. The variant included two separate thoracic wall muscles between the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles. One muscle was identified as a pectoralis quartus and the other as an accessory thoracic...

Unilateral presentation of three muscle variants in the pectoral region

A rare case of three muscle anomalies in the pectoral region was discovered during routine dissection of an 85-year-old female cadaver. The muscle anomalies include the congenital partial absence of the pectoralis major muscle, a sternalis muscle, and a pectoralis quartus muscle. All three variants presented on the right side. The pectoralis major muscle demonstrated a normal clavicular head bu...

Bilateral Chondroepitrochlearis Muscle: Incidence, Phylogenetic And Clinical Significance

IntroductIon The muscle mass of the pectoral region exhibits a variety of variations in the form of anomalous slips. The pectoralis major muscle is a thick triangular muscle that usually arises from the medial half of the clavicle, the sternum, and the first six costal cartilages. These three heads, the clavicular, the sternocostal and the abdominal, combine to form a tendon that inserts into t...

Accessory lateral pectoral nerves supplying the pectoralis major.

Certain surgical treatment failures of the brachial plexus lesions are due to the presence of anatomical variations. Anatomical knowledge of the pectoral nerves is of clinical importance during mastectomy, neurotization or other surgical procedures in the axilla. The present case describes three nerves arising from the lateral cord of brachial plexus supplying the pectoralis major muscle one be...
